Breakdown of a common, yet virtually unheard-of, Fetish by the Fetishist himself:
Greek has quite a few words for various servants, slaves, laborers, etc. But one word really grabbed me: “doulos” (δοῦλος). This is typically translated as “slave,” or “servant,” but what’s important is that it doesn’t mean a debt slave, a captive prostitute, an indentured servant, or anything like that. According to Thayer’s Greek Lexicon, it very specifically means someone who is a slave because he “gives himself up wholly to another’s will” or who is “devoted to another to the disregard of one’s own interests.” This is so accurate! But my fetish isn’t slaves, it’s slavery, so the appropriate word is “douleia.” So I am now totally attached to the (also admittedly made-up) word “Douleiaphilia,” which means a fetish for willingly becoming subordinate to someone else’s will, even to one’s own detriment.
